Reporter covers stop at Hudson Valley Farmers Market
Reporter Sheila M.
8/9/08Cluett Schantz Memorial Park, MiltonWilliam Iaia & Jay Dagostino Bill and Jay took a bite out of Marlborough, when they stopped for an energy break with a fresh picked apple (at the Heart of the Hudson Valley Farmers Market. or a near by farmers market),It was one of their many stops of the pasted three days. These Long Islanders began their journey on Wednesday, August 6th by flying to Niagra Falls to begin a four day charity bike ride back to Long Island to help raise awareness and funds for Angelas House. They did this to honor children with special care needs that are medically frail, technology dependent, chronically ill or living with a life threatening illness. ATDC and Angelas House assist families caring for medical fragile children living at home with their parent or in special homes that offer 24 hour nursing support.
Jay says that he sees how these families struggle with the day to day efforts needed to support these children. This struggle in many cases continues to a year to year effort which can be difficult on a family. Jay feels the difficulty of this ride is nothing compared to what the families do week to week, year to year. The bike shirt were be worn throughout the ride,

Bike Ride day 4
August 9, 2008
They left at 6 am and rode 110 miles. The last 10 miles were flat. William describes today as one of the top 3 toughest days he ever rode. They went straight up Bear Mountain for 3 miles and a fast 2 miles downhill. William said his legs were on fire all day. The entertainment for the day was racing a tractor at 28 mph for 2 miles. As the driver turned off, he gave them the thumbs up. They are in Ft. Lee, 2 miles from the George Washington Bridge. They look forward to greeting the crowd tomorrow, on schedule at 1 pm. -

2008 Bike Ride
The Bike Ride Blog begins:
Monday August 4,William and Jay prepared to travel to Niagara Falls from Long Island. Bill was at his house boxing up the bike in a suitcase. He said they plan to ride 115 miles a day and would be traveling lighter this time. When asked what was the most important thing to pack besides the bike, he said his energy and nutrition packs. He was in great spirits and looking forward to the trip. William is in great shape, lost 20 lbs, and commented that there would be many hills on this route. They would get up at 4 am for the 6 am flight to Buffalo, New York.
Jay was in an accident on June 21 on a ride from Manhattan to Montauk. He was hit from behind and thrown off his bike. His bike was crushed under a truck. He walked away with bruises and no one was seriously hurt. Many thanks for his helmet. He was given a new bike and the store offered to pack it for his trip, so he spent yesterday getting ready. He lost 14 lbs preparing and is in great shape. Jay said they are more prepared than ever before. He said they would eat lightly 4 times a day rather than the full lunches they have done previously. When asked what the most important thing he would pack besides his bike, he couldn’t think of anything.
Tuesday August 5th
At 11:51 am William sent a text message: “OK. Made it to Buffalo/Niagara Falls. Now looking for a bike shop. Jay forgot his shoes.” And so it begins….
